HMRC Making Tax Digital Maintenance Scheduled for this Weekend

14th August 2019

HMRC’s Making Tax Digital (MTD) service for VAT will be undergoing scheduled maintenance this weekend, lasting from 4pm Saturday 17 August until 4pm Monday 19 August. Any car dealers and garages that were intending to make MTD submissions or sign up with HMRC for Making Tax Digital over this period are advised to act either before or after the weekend instead.

During the HMRC system downtime, accountants who are taking care of Making Tax Digital on behalf of business clients, and businesses who will be implementing MTD themselves, will not be able to sign up for MTD, view previous submissions and payment details, submit returns, or review or update any business details.

The MTD payments service will also not be accessible during the scheduled maintenance and is set to re-open on Tuesday 20 August.

The introduction of Making Tax Digital in April 2019 meant that all VAT-registered businesses with a taxable turnover above the VAT threshold (£85,000) are now required to keep their VAT business records digitally and send their VAT returns using MTD-compatible software.
