No mate, although to be honest strictly speaker i'm a wimpy southerner! I have not had good experiences with plate drivers, unless they work for Large auction houses. I have been let down twice with drivers not turning up at all. Also, you need to be very clear on what happens if the cars develop a problem. Who is liable and who pays for what. I had a situation once where a car had been driven a few miles from Southampton and was left by the plate driver due to a coolant leak. I had to arrange for recovery back to London and the plate driver still wanted payment for the job. That argument went on for months.
Im sure you will find a decent plate driver/delivery company, I know of at least two that are
NOT
. If I need to move a car and it doesnt involve Manheim or BCA, I will hire a trailer!
Just my opinion mate, good luck

Decided to take it up myself and get the train back down. I don't have a 4x4 or a big towing car. It's a 2005 V70 so will make the trip no problem but the car has been paid for in full so I can't risk anything going wrong with delivery.

Sorry mate, dont mean to spook you!
Like I say, no problem with auction house drivers, I have on the whole found them to be professional and knowledgable; have cars driven down from leeds often. Its just some independents, anyone can use plates and some small delivery firms are not fussy about who they recruit and how they drive cars!
