Motorcycles / cars are selling them the same

Hello all, just a few questions from a newbie here, i am starting up as a sole trader selling motorcycles from my home, if i buy a bike for £500.00 and sell for £800.00 will the taxman tax me on all of this or just the profit i have made. My other question is, do i have to register with a motoring body or industry here in the uk in order to sell motorcycles, i cannot find any info for this on the DVLA website, and phoning them is a never ending loop. Also, how do i get road tax on the bikes without having insurance on them, i have a van to collect and deliver bikes with non MOTs and road Tax.. Guys i really would be happy for any iformation you can give me, i just want to get it right from the start....thank you.

Hi Mark,
I believe the taxman can only charge you on the difference - i.e the profit you make. I doubt you need to register - I sell cars and I haven't registered anywhere. If you want to be totally legit I would guess you just have to pay your taxes. You could probably tax your vehicles if you had a trade insurance policy that covered bikes aswell.

Cant decide if worth going vat reg as just started small scale.
If your figures for car sales are below the threshold, do you just pay tax on the profits, no vat to pay via margin scheme?
Guess that would make buying a qualifying car a silly idea?
