Parts Supersession
Nov 12th, 2009 at 9:25am

Hi,
Can someone explain the parts supersession system to me please? We need to make sure that whenever we supercede a part, the old part number has a note on it to direct you to the new part number.
Also, is there any way to show on the new part number that this is a supersession and to direct you to the old part number?
Many thanks!

To supersede an old part record click on ‘Parts’ from the Main Menu and then click on ‘Stock Levels’. This will take you to the stock menu. Now click on the ‘Supersede’ button along the top of the menu.

When the supersessions screen opens select whether the new item already exists in Dragon2000 and then follow the relevant steps:

If you have already created the new item tick ‘Yes’.
From the left hand side of the screen select the item you wish to supersede (click on the old item number), and from the right hand side of the screen select the new item. When you have checked the item information and you are happy that they are the correct items, click the ‘Confirm Supersession’ button. When prompted, click ‘Yes’ to complete the supersession.

If the new item doesn’t yet exist in Dragon2000 tick ‘No’.
From the left hand side of the screen select the item you wish to supersede (click on the old item number). The description and location will display on the right hand side. Type a unique item number for the new part in the box provided. At this point you can edit the description and location so that it is relevant for the new part. By default only the standard pricing will be created on the new item. If you want all the pricing information to be the same as the part that you are superseding then untick the pricing information box. This is shown underneath the ‘Create new item’ icon. Once all the unique details have been adjusted, click the ‘Create new item’ option. Click ‘Yes’ to create a new part record when prompted. The details of the new item will now be shown on screen, allowing you to add further details or edit details in the normal way.

Once a part has been superseded, if you try to order or sell the old part then the system will warn you that you are ordering a superseded part and will suggest you use the new part.
